The municipality of Dorado is located about 20 miles to the east of the San Juan metropolitan area. For many years it was an important agricultural sector of the island due to its relative level topography. Hundreds of acres of flatlands were used for agricultural purposes including the growing sugarcane and cattle farms. Its proximity to the San Juan metropolitan area made it ideal for residential development.
Many years ago, a female pilot, Clara Livingston purchased many acres of this land next to the coast. She even built a small runway where she could land her private plane. In the 1950s, the Rockefeller company started to develop touristic projects in Puerto Rico, and in the American and British Virgin Islands. They purchased the property in Dorado that was owned by Clara Livingston and developed a large and important residential tourist facility known as Dorado Beach that included a golf course. The hotel was developed and became known as a premier resort and golf beachfront facility, the other land parcels remained undeveloped for many years.
The hotel was later purchased by Eastern Airlines and when Borman became its president, he decided Eastern business was flying and not real estate and proceeded to dispose of all the undeveloped properties around the hotel. Those properties were sold to different entities who proceeded to develop the number of residential projects in the area, next to the hotel and very attractive beaches. With the diminishing sugarcane industry, other nearby properties have been developed into very successful residential projects, with some units being sold at prices never experienced to be possible in the island.
The most luxurious community in all Puerto Rico is located in Dorado. The resort lifestyle is experienced within the grounds of the Ritz Carlton Reserve. Several residential developments of both homes and condos have been developed within the gates all connected by golf cart trails that take you to the beach, golf, tennis, watermill park, water sports, fitness center and different restaurants all located within the premises. Golf lovers and resort life-style preference has made of Dorado a very desirable residential neighborhood.
Other very nice residential communities have also been developed within the area. If you like to live outside of the city, in close proximity to the Dorado Beach Club so you can benefit from the resort lifestyle, this is the neighborhood that you want to look for your dream home, both condos and houses are available in this neighborhood within and outside the Dorado Beach premises.
